Geo-IP URLs

What is a Geo-IP URL?

In general, when a user accesses one of the MeL eResources using one of these Geo-IP URLs, it will check to see if the user is coming from a registered IP address (on the vendor end), then check to see if a user is within Michigan (based on their IP address). View the MeL eResources Access page for detailed access information.

• If a user is coming from either a registered IP address or from within Michigan, then they will be allowed to access the resource.
• If the user isn't seen as coming from Michigan, then in most cases, the user will be directed to a page to authenticate using either:
  • A valid Michigan driver's license number or an official State of Michigan ID card number (available at any Secretary of State's office for Michigan residents who are non-drivers).
  • Patrons of most participating MeLCat libraries may enter their library barcode numbers.
  • Vendor login credentials.
• There will be instances of users from within Michigan being prompted to log in as not everyone within Michigan is seen as coming from a Michigan IP address.

These links will only count towards an individual library's statistics for the EBSCO eResources as long as the vendor has those IP addresses registered on their end.
