MeL faviconHere is resume writing help—when MI unemployment is 4.0%1—because U.S. News & World Report state low unemployment is good for job seekers2. So, if you’re in the job-seeking market, brush up your resume or write a new one with LearningExpress Job & Career Accelerator® available free at the Michigan electronic Library (Mel.org). Under LearningExpress, click the Job & Career Accelerator Center. Select Tools to Get Hired, then launch the Build Your Resume career tool. The Resume Builder will help you create effective resumes in a step-by-step manner with expert advice, easy-to-follow instructions, and helpful resume samples.

The Resume Builder helps you create new resumes from scratch or upload and edit an existing resume. The easy-to-follow format allows you to set up your resume profile once with your name and contact information, resume name, job category, description, job experience and current work situation, all saved for any additional resumes. When you create a new resume, you may select a first design or skip this step. Navigation takes you through the sections for a headline, job highlights and qualifications, experience, education, skills, licenses and certifications, honors and awards, publications and presentations, professional associations, additional information, endorsements, and a space to add your own defined section. You can use all or none of these sections, reorder them as it suits your needs.

If you’re not sure how your industry describes certain job skills, there are sample resumes and keyword lists to help you make the best word selections. There are action words and job specific keywords. When you are finished use the Resume Review feature to make edits and reorder sections, apply design formats and save it to your personal MyResume on your secure Dashboard. You can also email, print, copy and download your resume directly from the preview.

If you’re new to the job market or thinking of making a career switch or ready to take on more responsibility, take advantage of the job-seekers market and write your new resume with EBSCO LearningExpress Job & Career Accelerator on MeL.org.

I am re-entering the workforce and the LearningExpress Library resume builder enabled me to easily create a professional looking resume. The questions it asked and suggestions it offered gave me confidence that I was including all of the information that today’s employers are looking for in a format that would put my skills and experience in their best light. I haven’t had to create a resume in over ten years and LEL eliminated the stress from this portion of the job seeking process. Furthermore, I am visually impaired and I can use this program successfully with my Windows screen enlargement program.
